Libbyt -- I noticed that in your list of triggers that "stocks were insanely overvalued and the mania had run its course" was not among them. The surge in the biotech market, it seems to me, was the last burst of speed as the fumes in the tank caught fire when the tech-value tank showed "empty". Margin financed the last rounds of drinks -- but the crowd was already stinking drunk and ready to burn the house down -- IMO. This did not need a trigger, any more than you need a trigger to make your hurl when you have consumed a couple of quarts of tequila.
