Re: the K6-2+ chip in this HP notebook won't be 500MHz or higher... With celeron notebook speeds coming up rapidly, I think it has to be. This article (in german) as nearly as I can puzzle it out, would seem to indicate 550 for the K6-2+. The K6-2 is an interesting chip. One of my home machines is a K6-2 400. If I'm just editing text or something like that, the on board diagnostics show a CPU temp of 93 to 97 degrees C. If I start a big database sort, or something else that keeps the CPU pegged for awhile, the temperature rises to 129 degrees C. Assuming heat dissipation is a good proxy for power consumption, Intel's speedstep may have a hard time beating a plain old K6-2 for intelligent use of power.
