Mark,

>>> I'm long INSP, long INSP puts and short INSP calls in my retirement acct (a synthetic short if you will; no other way to short anything in a retirement acct) <<<

Does this really create a synthetic short? It appears to create a market neutral situation. Or am I missing something?

Regards,

Dave

PS. This could be a problem with active markets since the exchanges open new strikes frequently when the market moves significantly.

Mark, if you don't mind answering what type of retirement account is it? I have a KEOGH and schwab said i could only write calls or buy puts and nothing fancier. thanks

tx for the added info.

3-8 minutes for platitum team... yow! I get edgy sometimes at my current broker when my confirm doesn't come back w/in 5-10 seconds of my clicking the mouse :-)
of course, the options I'm moving to schwab aren't for swift of execution.

I will definitely verify online the series/strikes I want to trade ahead of time. the one I 'tested' have been open for months so I'm unsure why Schwab would not already have them in their system... unless (gasp!) Schwab doesn't enter them until someone calls them about it, or until the series/strikes become front month

I concur w/ Dave. it sounds like you've boxed your position. long + synthetic short.
ok, I read your followup post... seems complex, but all that matters is that works for you

the IRA brokers I have will only let me sell calls OR buy protective puts, not both. don't know why other than they're just overparanoid.
