I2: Re: "So, the Plunge Protection Team is more than the wishful thinking of paranoid speculators?"

Yes, but one does not have to believe in the existence of a formal team to understand that the Fed. and the administration will be ready to intervene if necessary.

Re: "Why did the Plunge Protection team stop the plunge on April 4th but refuse to act on Friday?"

Who knows for sure if the team acted on April 4th. I don't. But I do believe that the powers that be have connected over the weekend to plan for contingencies. Nobody wants a crash. As for Friday, I believe they would like to let the markets run on their own and will intervene only when things get out of control. The markets digested a new data point on Friday. Let the markets absorb the new economic data and react accordingly. The S & P 500 and Dow and Wilshire had a stiff correction. Big deal. I am sure the Fed. heads were pleased. Only the Naz has tanked. But they will step up if things go out of control.
