Major General receives Tahoe Lake sample results Major General Resources Ltd MGJ Shares issued 41,742,995 Apr 14 close $0.22 Mon 17 Apr 2000 News Release Also Dia Met Minerals Ltd (DMM.B) Mr. Bernard Kahlert reports Major General Resources has received results of processing the heavy mineral till samples on the Dia Met Tahoe Lake project, Victoria Island, Nunavat, from Dia Met Minerals Ltd., operator. Samples were collected in late summer of 1999 and processed in early 2000. Anomalous indicator mineral results were received from a group of five closely spaced samples, one of which indicated high-diamond potential. This sample contained a total of 97 kimberlitic indicator minerals, of which 31 were eclogitic garnets, two were harzburgitic (G10) garnets and 65 were ilerzholitic garnets (G9 and G11). These results are significant for the following reasons: Quality The 31 eclogitic garnets are particularly encouraging as each exhibits chemical characteristics consistent with high-diamond content eclogitic kimberlite. Morphology Detailed examination of the garnet shows glacial abrasion textures indicating short down-ice movement. These textures are similar to the textures of indicator minerals grains which led to the discovery of the nearby Snowy Owl kimberlite, which was found to be less than one kilometre up-ice from this discovery sample No. 1994-476. Abundance The fact that almost 100 kimberlitic indicator mineral grains were recovered from one till sample indicates that the source is close, particularly since dispersion trains in this area are known to be short. The presence of a large number of eclogitic garnets with the highest interest diamond inclusion mineral chemistry in this sample infers a nearby diamondiferous source. A number of other samples scattered over the project area contain a variety of diamondiferous indicator minerals. All samples were processed, picked and probed at C.F. Minerals Laboratory in Kelowna. All high-interest diamond indicators were carefully re-examined at the laboratory. As a consequence of these results, Dia Met has staked additional claims. Planning for the field exploration program is still under way, however, it will include aerial geophysical surveys, detailed ground sampling and magnetic surveys, geomorphological studies, as well as prospecting and trenching as necessary. By spending $4.5-million by April 30, 2004, Dia Met has the right to earn a 51-per-cent interest in the Tahoe Lake project. Thereafter Major General will retain a 49-per-cent interest. Approximately $500,000 has been spent by Dia Met to date. ¸ Copyright 2000 Canjex Publishing Ltd. canada-stockwatch.com
