Joan, no...the worst one day decline in '98 was in the vincinity of 1,000 points i believe, actually a bit less. we'll see if the decline sticks into the close...
anyway, individual stocks have a daily limit, so that should stop it at some point.

Looking at historical charts, there is ONE time the nikkei dropped like that.. 1989.

Of course, that drop was just one in a multi-year series that was so grinding and painful that even a decade later they're still 50% off the highs.

Doesn't Japan limit the amount a stock can go down in one session? For some reason I thought it was 7%. I guess with the index down almost 9%, that 7% notion must be wrong.
