Hi sammaster; Re american debt and c. When people can't pay off their debts, they go bankrupt. This isn't a pretty thing, but the government can handle it. Just print the money and dole it out. The idea is to keep the money moving around the economy, what happens to the individuals involved is of no big consequence. Even post bankrupt people have to spend.

The real problem happens when the government prints the money but it all gets hidden away. It isn't possible for just a few people to hide the money, the government can give it out to too many. Pretty much the worst thing that can happen is what Japan did, where a huge section of the middle class took the money and saved it.
