DAK: I visited the Tokyo stock exchange recently. It is semi-automated and "run" by a handful of guys who basically watch computer screens and play with their own navels. If a stock moves more that a pre-set amount up or down, they just shut down that stock for the day -- period. It is an amount set on a stock by stock basis -- and looking at the tape, I would say that quite a few stocks are now limit down -- ouch. BTW, I asked people at the exchange what they were going to do with these screen watchers in May when they move to a fully automated system -- you are going to love this. The screen watchers will have a really cool looking high tech plexi-glass area on the trading "floor" so the news people can get good photos of "something". And these guys? They will do nothing -- they are human maniqens
