Joe, REITs survived this crash better than most every other sector. Over the past several weeks they have climbed quite nicely in fact. Cyclicals also did quite well, but not as well as REITs. Banks were doing great until Friday, when they took a big hit. . .I'm still holding them, though. Gold did fine, but was slow to react. Cash was cash. But take a look at the declines in every equity sector. . . no matter where you put your money in mid-March. . you probably would have lost heavily by today. But REITs held up quite well, though they didn't get the "popular" flight to quality as they did last year . . that made them pop. Still I'll have to disagree with you on this one. Also, we haven't rebounded yet. So there is still a coin flip on whether we spike back sharply or if we stay down here in the dumps for the next 6 months. So we don't know whether our defensive posture can be released this week or in October. And once again, moving to REITs as an extreme defensive posturing had nearly nothing to do with real estate, property values or rent. It has been just a shelter. . . and a good one at that. I plan on holding most or all of mine [depending on the markets]. . .for at least one quarter, maybe two. . .and will be thankful for the dividends. Remember, even though there are big bargains in tech stocks here. . . and we may see some popping on earnings later this week. . . .I honestly don't think we have seen the bottom on many. . .and believe that it may take months to see them turn. Some tech stocks simply will not bounce. So while the gloom and doom may be nearing an end. . . the tech correction may be still only beginning. Therefore, I don't plan on releasing my defensive position, until the coast is clear. . . which may be months away yet. And as I buy up bargains in tech stocks, I am being very very selective. . .only buying the best bargains [earnings are important]. . . and looking to turn them around on the swing, as soon as whatever rally we see in techs begins to fail. Also, remember I predicted the tech rally to follow the decline will be very narrow. So picking the best of the best is important. Rande Is
