One would expect it to have such an effect. But the disconnect between Wall and Main Streets was significantly greater in 1987 than many had predicted. Certainly more of us own stock now than in 1987. In any case, I hope the Fed do not get too hung up on lagging indicators of strong economic performance. They should be aware of the limitations of their economic data. Major inflection points in the stock market need to be watched very carefully IMHO.
