LSI Logic Launches SureConnex Family of High Speed I/O Connections For the Internet

New SpeedBlazer Standard Product FamilyTargets Multi-Gigabit Per Second

Interfaces for Communications Markets

MILPITAS, Calif., April 17 /PRNewswire/ -- LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced its new family of SureConnex(TM) communications interfaces designed to address the rising demand for reliable, high-bandwidth connections to the Internet. LSI Logic also announced its new SpeedBlazer(TM) standard product family for multi-gigabit per second interfaces ideal for Internet computing, networking and web-based storage applications. The SpeedBlazer standard products are included in the family of SureConnex communications interfaces.

Also included in the SureConnex family are more than 120 ASIC interfaces, such as LSI Logic's popular GigaBlaze(R) serial transceivers, USB, DDR SDRAM, Rambus RAC, PCI-X, SCSI and HyperPHY(TM) cores. These interfaces can be integrated in system-on-a-chip designs to boost the bandwidth between systems, between boards within a system, and among chips on a board, to improve access and delivery of data.

"If the new economy is to reach its full potential, then communications over the Internet will need to be nearly instantaneous so that applications such as commerce transactions, music downloads and photo transmissions can be completed rapidly," said Bruce Entin, vice president and general manager of LSI Logic's Internet Computing Division. "LSI Logic's high-performance I/O cores and standard products provide the technological underpinning of the Internet by enabling the rapid-fire transmission of data, voice and video."

To achieve instantaneous communications, the Internet hardware industry is upgrading to high performance interconnect protocols such as Fibre Channel, PCI-X, 10 Gigabit Ethernet and InfiniBand. These interconnect protocols require sophisticated mixed signal design techniques and carefully designed systems using LSI Logic's SureConnex input/output (I/O) communications interfaces.

"LSI Logic is the leader in combining multi-gigabit, standards-compliant interfaces, with complex blocks of logic," said Marc Miller, marketing director, LSI Logic, Internet Computing Division. "We have highly skilled and experienced engineering teams, including experts in mixed-signal design, signal integrity, core-integration, characterization and applications support, who help our customers develop I/O solutions that match their marketplace."

For example, integrated GigaBlaze transceiver cores have been widely used in Fibre Channel disk drives, host adapters and switches. LSI Logic's technology enabled a rapid transition to high-volume, cost-effective integrated systems-on-a-chip for Fibre Channel applications. SureConnex communications interfaces leverage this expertise in developing and characterizing high-speed I/O solutions both for integration into ASICs and for use in standard products.

The new SpeedBlazer family of multi-gigabit transceiver standard products is based on four generations of LSI Logic's industry-leading and market-proven GigaBlaze integrated transceiver cores. The first product from this new family, the SpeedBlazer GQ-100, includes four serial transceivers (a quad transceiver) and lane-to-lane alignment logic for InfiniBand and 10 Gigabit Ethernet applications. Samples of the SpeedBlazer GQ-100 product are expected to be available in Q4 2000.

LSI Logic is also a leader in memory interconnects, with roadmaps addressing both DDR SDRAM and Rambus technologies. LSI Logic was the first company to achieve Gold ASIC Support Partnership status by Rambus, Inc., in 1999. The Gold Partnership status recognizes LSI Logic's comprehensive capabilities in supporting Rambus-based designs.

You are assuming that you will get the steak. Big assumption.
