Sarge - re: margin - check this chart out

sharelynx.net

The only problem with margin use - is traders using it; make the same mistakes they make in trading - and with margin; those mistakes are leveraged.

Mistake #1 - not taking profits continually into spikes !

... "greed" takes over when stocks ramp - we see it here; how many times I've posted that I am taking profits - rotating to laggards etc & been criticized is a prime example.

However, for those who have learned who to wield the deadly double edged sword - and who can buy on margin into these selloffs - the upside is tremendous.

With tech's here - staying in niche leaders is paramount and "averaging" in versus trying to call a bottom. I may end up 10% in tech, or 50% in tech here - how far the NASDQ sells off will determine that; I'll move 10-15% into tech on each 10%, or 300 points down here in the NAZ - lots of nice companies down in island pre-market trading - lots of bargains.

Stocks like WCOM are the true bargains presented by these types of selloffs...

I nibbled in NTAP pre-market as well - averagin in on 3-4 buys, 10% apart with limit order fishing lines set. If I get the first buy only on only 3-4 stocks - it's worth it; I've decided that I will not watch this tech retrace pass me by without some nice core longterm holds picked up - got CMGI & NTAP so far...
