I did run..., for years, but never in any of the big marathons.... It wasn't that important to me.

When I got into my 40's I was advised to stop putting on to many miles because of the damage to joints and the vertebra. My brother stopped because of lower disc compression and cartilage problems. I suspect knee and hip replacement medicine is a growth industry....<<smile>>

I do a lot of mountain hiking and love getting into the high alpine regions of mountains, this can take a lot of steady consistent mental energy and physical determination. Hiking up mountains is considered the very best cardio work out available. So I now do a mixture of walking and light jogging to keep fit for the hiking. Hopefully, this will keep me hiking into my 90's. Also row single sculls, which I hope to do more of shortly.

Many people do just that...It's not a big deal because there are so many runners.... It's only a problem if you attempt to open with the elite runners.

It's the classic race.
