"Backbone Bottlenecks Burst Broadband Bubble"

zdnet.com

More evidence that Nortel knows where the internet is going and is leading the way.

When Nortel announced the Broadband Content Delivery Forum, most of the analysts just yawned.

Now, it appears that Nortel has recognized a weakness in the economic model of the internet and is taking steps to correct it. The weakness is caused by the interconnection points on the internet and the lack of an economic incentive for the various providers to make the capital investment to correct the problem. A partial solution lies in moving content distribution to the edge. Where are Cisco and Lucent?

Ken- Do you know what presence NT has in wet-DWDM market? Any revenue figures or url's you can point me to? IMO, it's still a rapidly growing sector that gets little attention.

As you can probably infer from Bosco's linked article, ALA has a significance presence. ALA even recently got a $1 billion(yes billion) contract with FLAG that did zero to it's stock price. Here's a link because you may find the details of the contract interesting: biz.yahoo.com ...sorry. I can't find the $1 billion figure right now. I hope I remember it accurately.

Thanks. -MikeM(From Florida)

PS Ken- Thanks for the GE links on the Last Mile.
