OT KODAK Results

"Sales from the company's professional segment declined 8 percent, which Carp attributed to stiffer competition in the digital camera market and weaker equity income from the Kodak Polychrome Graphics joint venture.

``The Professional business could possibly be a problem for us in the second quarter,' Carp said in a conference call with analysts, citing stiff competition in the digital camera business from Japan's Canon Inc. (7751.T) and Nikon Corp. (7731.T). He said he expects that business to recover in the second half of the year.

Analysts have been closely watching the performance of Kodak's digital business. The company's shares have skidded 22 percent since September as it has fought its reputation among investors as an ``old economy' company.

The company is touting its faster-growing digital business as evidence that its growth potential exceeds that of its brethren in the cyclical and consumer sector.

Losses in Kodak's digital business, which includes digital cameras, its ``You've Got Pictures' joint venture with America Online Inc. (AOL.N), and other products, totaled $4 million, compared with $12 million in the year-earlier period"
