That father is just a pawn of Castro's. Nothing he says can be trusted, he is not a free agent.

The King Solomon precedent applies. When two women fought over a baby he said that the solution was to divide the child in half, knowing that the real mother would object.

Under these circumstances any free father would want his son raised in the US. The fact that his father does not shows that he is not free to speak.

Here we have a child which faces life in the hellhole of Cuba or life in the US. Any free father would want his son raised in the US rather than face the hell of Castro's Cuba. The fact that Castro won't let Juan save his son from that fate certain argues against listening to the words he parrots.
