<< The queen mates with a number of drones and the genetic resistance can be diluted too easily. >> I have always understood that the queen only mates with one drone and only once in her life to get all of the seeds for her reign as queen. In addition all of the offspring have the queen's genetic make-up and not the drone's. Bee Keepers can control the characteristics of the colony by selecting the queen that has the characteristics they select. This is one of the reasons bee keepers order queens from the breeders instead of letting the worker bees in the hives produce their own. If this is true, and the breeders could find the resistant characteristics...problem solved.
