It comes down to a simple equation for me. I'm a moderate, I believe in moderate solutions arrived at through dialogue and consideration for other points of view. I dislike intensely the doctrinaire placidity and the assumptions of inherent rectitude that characterize both ends of the political spectrum. If neither party is going to offer me a moderate choice, I'm not going to vote for either.

Meanwhile, I'd be curious to hear what you think of this:

It seems that the Pentagon, of all people, is trying to take a moderate position; they will naturally get flack from both sides. Whenever I see an institution or policy getting abuse from both directions I start looking at it favorably; I'm even feeling well disposed toward the World Bank and IMF these days. If both liberals and conservatives hate them, they must be doing something right.
