Re: "This is something that can never be done with Windows."

Well "never" is always debatable. For instance let say one were to "GHOST" or just backup to a writable CD then format and re-install WindowsX then "GHOST" or restore back to the re-installed disk. Would that take the "never" aspect out of your argument?

SunSpot - I've been reading your posts about Linux support and ease of administration and upgrade with increasing amusement. Surely you don't really believe this nonsense!!

I have more Unix machines than MSFT based, although most are Solaris. Just 1 Linux box. One was plenty IMHO.

You seem to have had some trouble upgrading from NT4 to Win2K - I would suggest that is pilot error since I have seen lots of nearly incompetent people do that with no problems.

And as far as afterwards your icons on the desktop are placed exactly where you left them, and all your settings are intact. This is something that can never be done with Windows

I upgraded machines to Win2K from Win95, Win98, Win98SE, and NT - in every case all of the contexts were preserved perfectly, including the desktop settings for multiple users. Icon placement and all. Browser favorites, last documents accessed, network connections, router tables, the works. I have been doing this for years with a variety of MSFT operating systems. Win98 SE will upgrade from Windows 3.11 which is a completely different desktop metaphor, and still do a pretty good job of preserving context and settings.

What planet are you on??
