Sorry Tero, I just can't help pi55ing myself laughing at the latest Qcom crap! Biting the hand that feeds them? Seems that we must be mad as we don't get the Qcom story either, or implementing 'protectionism'. Oh well I suppose 150 countries are all wrong....and the companies that supply the mobile service in those countries are all wrong too. Oh well, I'll just keep on being wrong then.

Great move by Q! to form a company to compete in Japan. There are few suppliers of cellphone service there, a very dense population which will need super-efficient spectrum management and soon. i-mode is going like crazy, but keeps crashing. W-CDMA won't do the trick. This will get cdma2000 in and fast. Silly DDI/IDO trying to get a bargain royalty rate from Q! when it's already so cheap as to be derisory. The battle between W-CDMA [NTT version] and cdma2000 is becoming fun and quickly. I'm amazed at the wimpy approach people take such as 'we mustn't compete with our customers'. If the customers aren't doing it, get stuck in! That's their problem. Nokia will NOT be enjoying this spectacle. DDI/IDO won't like it either. NTT will be sweating. The new PM will be having a meeting with Charlene and Madeleine. He will find it interesting. I'm amazed at the disbelief of many in this and other SI streams. Think Leap Wireless. Think NextWave [yes I know that has not been a great success yet but it's not finished]. Think spectrum auctions in UK. And Australia [where Q! made a tidy arbitrage fee on spectrum]. Think how many companies would lurrvve to get a piece of the action in Japan. Hitachi, Hutchison, Telecom New Zealand [think America's Cup before you laugh], Microsoft [who are keen to enter the WWeb space in a BIG way], Vodafone, and heaps of others, including Korea Telecom Freetel. Japan DID sign the "Free Trade in Telecoms" agreement. NTT does have pretensions of international business [do they really want their nose bopped if Japan shuts down competition illegally]. Maurice PS: No market bargains at 5am NZsheep-time so back to bed.
