No Pain?

I have a young friend that just started Cisco a week ago and 4 of 10 in her workgroup got margin calls on Friday. I guess they thought all stocks only go up as does (or did) Cisco stock..

I have another friend at a pre IPO B2B and she loves the high flyers and, despite my advice, is way down. She was shocked that I was actually ahead for the year yesterday. She says MANY in her office are wiped out (margin calls) as are many of her friends at other small B2B companies. She is the one that was telling me you only need to work for a few years, make a few million then retire and the B2B companies will get some new people out of Stanford or Berkeley to take their place and do it again. It was so easy...

No, I think many have learned a huge lesson and have experienced great pain. I feel sorry for them, but it is strange at how "old fuddy duddy" they made me feel when I spoke of buying value. I'd say "this stock is too expensive" for me to buy and get "well, they plan to split soon" from the one that is way down for the year.

If real estate values taper off their meteoric rise of late, then I think it will be clear that some pain was delivered to the Silicon Valley by Mr. Market.

I like the group at this site, for the most part, as they are aware of value and can speak to it. That was rare.
