JAIL FOR OWNING A MODEM!

Myanmar, once known as Burma, is still frightened of the Internet. The military government runs a site at myanmar.com (don?t miss "The Political Situation In Myanmar" by Lt. Col. Hla Min of the Office of Strategic Studies of the Ministry of Defence) but most Internet access is tightly controlled. Three years after it was introduced, email is restricted to fewer than 600 foreigners and government officials, and unauthorized ownership of a modem could put you in jail for 7 to 15 years.

See canoe.ca;

They strap you to a lightning rod if you're caught with a Zoom modem. Seems redundant.

COLLISION WITH ANDROMEDA

Our galaxy is on a collision course with Andromeda. Within three billion years, the Milky Way will be swallowed up and merged with the Andromeda galaxy as the 2 million-light-year gap between the two closes 500,000 kilometres an hour. Astronomers have used parallel processing to crunch the numbers and create a high-resolution computer animation of the collision at ftp://holstein.cita.utoronto.ca/pub/tflops .

Okay, I give up. How exactly does this affect me, and what can I do about it?
