Dynarc Joins Optical Domain Service Interconnect
Initiative for FutureDevelopment of
Next-Generation Networks
Fri Apr 14 08:46:00 EDT 2000

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Apr 14, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Optical Equipment Supplier Provides IP Solutions
with Guaranteed Quality of Service

Dynarc, a provider of next-generation optical IP and multiservice network
solutions, today announced its participation in the industry-wide Optical Domain
Service Interconnect (ODSI) initiative joining more than 100 other networking
vendors and service providers. ODSI is the first industry-wide initiative to
drive innovation in the public network and define and empower a practical
framework by which interoperability can occur between electrical and optical
service network domains.

Dynarc's participation and unique positioning in providing an optical networking
product line that offers a unified IP solution to carry advanced IP-based
services with 100% guaranteed quality of service (QoS), will help drive flexible
solutions for all-optical and metropolitan area networks (MANs).

"Creating an open and non-proprietary interface to the intelligent optical
network will enable service provider to capitalize on the innovation taking
place on both sides of the electro-optical boundary," said Scott Larson,
Director of Marketing, Strategic Programs for Sycamore Networks. "The industry
momentum behind the ODSI initiative and pace at which the group is moving
underscores the importance of defining a practical framework for
interoperability at this critical network hand-off point."

With the collaboration of various industry-leading telecom and datacom
companies, the ODSI initiative has been designed to provide faster, more
reliable access to the bandwidth available at the core of the public network by
improving interoperability between the traditional electrical networks and the
emerging intelligent optical network. The ODSI initiative enables service
providers and their customers to deploy networks that can more easily handle the
explosive growth of data traffic over the public network.

"ODSI will be a very important initiative for managing and adding interoperable
standards and also reflects our efforts for an all-optical IP approach for
next-generation networks," said Olov Schagerlund, CEO and co-founder of Dynarc.
"The future of optical networks will emphasize the need for interoperability and
a smooth migration path to an all IP world."

Dynarc's products are designed for optical access networks and feature a
scalable technology that provides bandwidth-on-demand and the delivery of
value-added services with guaranteed QoS. Along with the ODSI initiative and
Dynarc's family of products, will help with bandwidth management and a single
network management layer to carry multiple IP services.

"The time is right as carriers and service providers are looking for a single
platform to carry multiple services and integrated voice, data and video
applications. Today, Dynarc offers a robust IP solution for optical networks and
optical MANs that will add value when determining standards and common future
interfaces," added Schagerlund.

About ODSI

Optical Domain Service Interconnect (ODSI) is an open, industry-wide initiative
inaugurated by Sycamore Networks (NASDAQ: SCMR) in cooperation with a diverse
group of service providers and networking vendors. ODSI represents a coalition
of networking professionals with a common interest in selecting, applying and
promoting the open interfaces and signaling protocols that will allow
higher-layer service networks to effectively interoperate with an evolving and
dynamic optical network core. Responding to industry needs, the ODSI coalition
represents a collaborative effort to open the interface to the next generation
optical network and help drive innovation in service creation and delivery. For
more information on ODSI, please contact Scott Larson at 978-250-3433.
