Tuesday April 18, 4:07 pm Eastern Time Zomax Incorporated Announces 225% Increase in First Quarter 2000 Earnings MINNEAPOLIS, April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Zomax Incorporated (Nasdaq: ZOMX - news) today reported record sales and earnings for its first quarter ended March 31, 2000. Net income for the first quarter of 2000 increased 225% to $6.4 million from $2.0 million in 1999, based on a 19% sales increase to $57.4 million from $48.2 million for the same period last year. Diluted earnings per share were $.38, compared to $.12 in the first quarter of 1999, an increase of 216%, on 7.1% more shares outstanding. James T. Anderson, Chairman and CEO, stated, ``We are very pleased with our first quarter results. Our increase in sales comes from both bringing new customers on board and increasing sales to existing customers. Operating income was very strong at 17.4% as compared to 7.2% in the first quarter of 1999. This significant improvement in operating income reflects a strong customer and product mix as well as improved operational efficiencies and increased sales volume leveraging fixed capital costs. Our strong balance sheet positions us for growth objectives for the balance of 2000, which include potential acquisitions and new E-fulfillment service offerings. Business continues to be strong entering second quarter, and we are moving ahead with plans to add additional capacity in the second half of the year.' Zomax is a leading international outsource provider of process management services. The Company's fully integrated services include E-fulfillment services, E-commerce support, call center and customer support solutions; DVD authoring services; CD and DVD mastering; CD and DVD replication; supply chain and inventory management; graphic design; print management; assembly; packaging; warehousing; distribution and fulfillment; and RMA processing.
