Polvie, that was a beautiful letter from your son. You must be so proud. It sounds like he has it figured out.
Thank you for sharing the letter with us.

This is kinda lenghty but maybe you could forward it to your son.
"HOW DO YOU LIVE YOUR DASH"
I read of a man who stood to speak
at the funeral of a friend,
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From the beginning...to the end.

He noted that first came her date of birth
And spoke the following date with tears.
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth...
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own;

The cars...the house...the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard...
Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
To consider what's true and real,
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile...
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy's being read
With your life's actions to rehash...
Would you be proud of things they say
About how you spent your dash?

Polvie,

What can I say? I am speechless,(no easy task for me). Your son will indeed make you even prouder if I am any judge of character.

When he is that world class chef and we have a future Porch reunion I will personally hire him to prepare our evening feast.

I see the phoenix arising from the ashes here, my friend. God be with you both to see this to fruition.

All My Very Best,

Joel

OT - hey - what a surprise!

In a previous life, I took some classes at the CIA.

The book that he's probably interested in is called
The New Professional Chef by the Culinary Institute of
America. This is pretty much their text book.

And if he starts cooking from this book, you better plan
on having lots of people over for dinner. The yields on
these recipes are rather large, though they're a lot
smaller than the ones that appeared in the book that
they had out 20 years ago.

hi polvie,
sounds like kidd's doing great. that's fantastic! also sounds like once he gets out you'll be the one to lose you AZ next, as in he's gonna have you running and doing aerobics. oh and you'll have to work twice as hard because he'll be cooking all that good food that you won't be able to resist. <vbg> you're in trouble now polvie! just look what you started! then again if he does get you all buff maybe we'll put you on the porch "beefcake" calendar that we'll be selling to raise money for margin calls . jajaja! contribute to the cause! love ya, she
