SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Intel Corp. today confirmed that it now plans to boost capital
spending to $6.8 billion in 2000--double the amount it spent in 1999. In January, Intel had
earmarked $5.0 billion for capital spending, compared to $3.4 billion in 1999, but stronger
demand for semiconductors has resulted in an increase in the budget.
