John, Re: When they said that it took them 4 quarters to realize that the Internet would stimulate growth, you have to ask, what planet were they living on? This is the company that was famous for their execution.

Agreed, I am disappointed too.

John, Re : "I expect we will start seeing downward earnings revisions, soon."

I am not sure why you expect a downward revision. The Y2000
EPS estimate is only 2.93 (and Y2001 is 3.42). With a strong 2nd half and a decent 1H, we are looking at an approximate EPS of 0.71 (or it is .88 ?), .70, .80 and .90
for Q1 thru Q4. (= 3.11 or 3.28, including tax income for Y2000). 1999 EPS was $2.32. A healthy 35% growth Y2Y, I think. (more if you count one time tax gain). No ?

John,

They did not say it took them four quarters to realize that the internet would stimulate growth. What they said was one of the reasons they hadn't increased their capacity was that the internet grew even faster than they thought it would and it continues to surpass their expectations for it's growth. Some other reasons were that demand in Japan grew faster than they expected and same was true in the rest of the Asian market too.

So tell me John, how fast do you think it is going to keep growing and then tell me how anyone would know the unknowable?

I recall also that they said they didn't lose any market share this quarter and that was after gaining market share last quarter.

When asked to comment on AMD's sucess, they called the increase in demand a tide lifting all boats.

Re hostility: I noticed it when Drew Peck asked a question about investment income porion of their earnings. I don't recall any other examples of the hostility you refer to. Can you point to a few more instances?
