Anybody interested in or who owns TSATA (TCI Satellite) should read the following. This is an excerpt from an interview with John Malone today by CNBC. I have highlighted some parts in bold print. Malone states that his company, Liberty Media is committing $1.7 Billion (yes, with a "B")to Astrolink which is part of the joint venture between TSATA and Liberty Media.

CNBC's FABER REPORT: Interview With
John Malone

The following is a portion of CNBC reporter David Faber's interview with Liberty Media Chairman John Malone that aired earlier Tuesday.

FABER: As the chairman of Liberty Media, John Malone is in the position of chief dealmaker for a company that lives off its investments. The company has control or large ownership stakes in cable programmers such as discovery and QVC huge stakes in media giants Newscorp and Time Warner and has
worked significant deals this year with the likes of Cendant, Primedia and IDT Corp. Liberty is also invested in satellite distribution both through its stake in Newscorp and its holdings of TCI Satellite. But does that focus mean the once king of cable has soured on his old business?

MALONE: First of all I have always wanted to be in satellite. I mean, we are a pioneer in a thing called home- sat about twenty years ago. PrimeStar and its predecessor entities were ours and we kept running into the proverbial problem with the government - they didn't want us farming on both sides of the fence. So we are never able as long as we were fully part of TCI and it was all one company to exploit satellite interest the way we wanted.

FABER: Do you see it as true competitor to what cable is trying to do right knew and DSL, or do we know? MALONE: Cable, still, I believe, has the high ground because it is the only transport mechanism in which you can do
telephony without delay; full voice, telephony, full video and full data connectivity. On a real-time basis.. So the.problems of.satellites is always impediment on the point- to-voice communications, or voice and video. On
the other hand it is.a potential efficiency. FABER: Efficiency in what way?

MALONE: Efficiency, in the sense that you cover the world with one capital investment..We disclosed today the capital commitment for the launch of Astrolink, our joint venture vehicle, is like $1.7 billion, and that covers the world
