Hi Frank, Thanks for your insights. I will consult with local network resources and find out what I can about the incident and post. This is intriguing to me because it was a POTS episode and not merely Internet related. It also was above the threshold you quoted, AFAIK. Also, the fact that key financial institutions were down troubles me quite a lot. Not to be paranoid or anything, but the what-if's regarding a sustained and continuous infrastructure attack like occurred at two US embassies in East Africa in the recent past is worth pondering. To paraphrase Andy Grove, the paranoid do survive. Best, Ray
