reset it to correct time once a day ?

if the battery can be charged external to the laptop, charge it that way, then monitor if the problem still exists, after the battery is stuck in the laptop, and without the AC connection.

what it might indicate is :
- is working off the AC lines at varying frequencies confusing the clock ?

my coffee machine exhibits the same problem - I dont rely on it for "timed coffee making".

I had the same problem with my clock. Funny how today's computers are such precision pieces yet most internal clocks run worse than a cheap watch.
try downloading the atomclk.zip utility, it worked for me:
