Regarding the Merrill and HSBC news today . . .

I wrote this over 4 weeks ago. It is kind of fun sometimes to go back to see what had been written. <VBG>

The other thing to take note of in contrasting this is that SEG's plans are to use the foremost brokers already in place in the areas in which they intend to do business - I still say that this will take less effort overall in terms of name recognition across the globe (that is, by leveraging over known names in each area) than for a foreign company (albeit a well-known one here) to attempt to get its name known. Beyond that, there is a local reputation factor associated with the broker-partners that SEG will use. Put it this way, Keith, if you - as somebody in North America - decide you want to buy or sell shares in say Hong Kong, who do you want handling the transaction for you? Somebody who's already been doing it for decades and is the most respected name in their area (who will just happen to already be signed exclusively to SEG), or a North American company who just hung out their shingle? It's a fairly obvious choice for me...I've had enough North American trades butchered by brokers here, I wouldn't trust them at all dealing in other languages in exchanges halfway across the world. I might even pay a premium for a more assured local service (which thanks to SEG's business model, I won't have to).
