Go2Net names Microsoft's Rick Thompson CFO (Reuters, 04/19/2000 09:07) SEATTLE, April 19 (Reuters) - Web site operator Go2Net Inc. (NASDAQ:GNET) said on Wednesday that it had hired Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) executive Rick Thompson to be its chief financial officer. Thompson, who joins Go2Net after over 12 years with Microsoft, will play a primary role in Go2Net's operational, financial and strategic activities, including investments, acquisitions, and partnerships. He also will work to integrate new activities into Go2Net's business, the company said. The Seattle-based Go2Net, which is backed by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, runs Web properties such as the MetaCrawler search engine and the Silicon Investor financial discussion and news site. While at Microsoft, Thompson's most recent credits included getting Microsoft into the game console business, Go2Net said. In March Microsoft announced its X-box videogame console that is designed to compete with market leaders Sony Corp. (TOKYO:6758) and Nintendo Co. Ltd. (TOKYO:7974) .
