Philly Fed Business Outlook Survey April 2000

Manufacturing activity in the region is continuing to expand, according to firms surveyed for the April Business Outlook Survey. The indexes of new orders, shipments, and employment remain positive but moderated from their readings in March. Forecasts of overall activity for the next six months showed an appreciable decline this month. A relatively high proportion of firms continue to report pressures on input prices, and notably, a higher percentage of firms reported higher prices of final goods this month.


Weekly Jobless Claims = -9k to 257k

In the week ending April 15, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 257,000, a decrease of 9,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 266,000. The 4-week moving average was 262,500, a decrease of 1,500 from the previous week's revised average of 264,000.
