Terry, What were the links you used to get the upgrades? I have not found anything yet on Reuters or Bloomberg.

Your Profile is fantastic. Great ski shots. Is that you? Loved the Slick Willie photo. Brought tears to my eyes.

Virata's ADSL Semiconductors Selected by TECOM For Major ADSL Roll-Out in Asia

TECOM Secures Contract with Chunghwa Telecom For ADSL Deployment in Taiwan

April 19, 2000 08:02 AM Eastern Time
SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Securing a significant design win with one of Taiwan's largest telecommunications companies, Virata(R) Corporation VRTA today announced that its Beryllium(TM) and Boron(TM) processors have been chosen by TECOM to power one of its newest ADSL routers and modems. TECOM is emerging as a major player in Asian DSL manufacturing and deployments, and has secured a contract with Chunghwa Telecom, the leading telecommunications and data services provider in Taiwan, to provide the ADSL products for 1/3 of Chunghwa's initial phase of 200,000 ADSL lines in Taiwan. TECOM will continue to provide ADSL products for Chunghwa's ADSL roll-out over the next few years.
"This is a significant win for us as it represents one of the largest ADSL roll-outs in Asia and will help expand our company's outreach into critical international markets," said Tom Foster, Virata's vice president of sales for Asia. "As the Asian market continues to aggressively ramp up its deployment of ADSL solutions, we will be there to provide the necessary hardware and software solutions, as well as comprehensive technical support, to support volume expectations."

"ADSL is very important in Asia and we needed a high-quality hardware and software solution to meet our customer's demands," said Peter Wei, Chief Engineer, TECOM. "With Virata's Beryllium and Boron processors, not only will we be better able to provide our customers with higher performing products at a lower cost, but also comprehensive technical support from an experienced team of R&D and engineering professionals. We believe that our relationship with Virata will allow us to garner further Asian contracts with leading telcos such as Chunghwa."

About Beryllium and Boron

Representing the industry's first "ADSL home router on a chip," Beryllium can substantially lower equipment costs. Based on a Virata patented invention, it is also capable of delivering better performance over long-loops than today's best ADSL router. The Beryllium communications processor includes a built-in ADSL transceiver, internal MAC for local connectivity, and expansion flexibility.

The Boron chip was designed around the same flexible and integrated architecture as Beryllium, but is targeted specifically at single-PC ADSL modems and achieves an even lower cost point.

TECOM's ADSL Product Line

TECOM is committed to the rapidly growing area of information technology by providing a full line of data communication and networking products. Its family of telecommunication products feature unique designs and consist of a broad array of business communication, wireless communication and information technology products.

TECOM's ADSL ATU-R product line, which will incorporate the Beryllium and Boron solutions, is currently in development and will be available later this year for implementation in the second phase of Chunghwa's ADSL roll-out. The products will be G.dmt and G.lite compliant, and will offer router capabilities.

Its products and services include business communication systems, SOHO routers, wireless technologies, VoIP technologies, and particularly xDSL technologies.
