I guess there are alot of different ways of looking at this ... in my mind it is the valuation a company gives when the first offer comes in, as no more than what is known at that time has been proven. Eventually the true value does unfold and we can calculate what they really paid which is what I believe you are providing.

In a hostile takeover, the intent of a major is to pick up a company before more ozs are proven. I'm sure Homestake did not pay for speculative ozs.

As for FGX, if/when an offer comes in we can debate their cost per oz, on the FGX thread.

<Edit> Another quick comment, remembering back to AQP, when this type of calculation was done, I believe gold eq (silver) was not included.
