Tim McC, re: why did Intel buy back 1B in stock and shares out increased?

Uhh, ever heard of stock purchase plans and stock options?

EDIT: after checking your profile, I see that was a dumb question.

Tim,

BTW, why did Intel buy back 1B in stock and shares out increased?

There is a leak in the financial statements. The companies (Intel in not alone) award stock options to employees in lieu of salary. This money is not captured on the income statement.
