Of course my DNA doesn't "care" in any emotional sense- but it makes me, as an individual care. Why didn't you adopt if it is so unimportant to pass on your genes? Why is adoption always less favored? Why is it so important to most people to have natural children? Why the sense of loss when we pass out of our reproductive years? Because we are primed to reproduce as much as possible. It is the primary function of any organism to reproduce, on an individual level.
