But Dave is arguing that some future applications will need RDRAM.

RDRAM, the chipsets associated with it, and faster processors will enable new applications. There's a difference.

I am guessing that he gave up the futile argument that RDRAM can do anything for you today, for current applications, on current platforms.

Most corporations, and many individuals (including myself) try to buy systems that will serve for 3-4 years, that can handle more advanced applications, and won't be obsolete tomorrow. Therefore we buy "extra headroom" in our systems. You can argue with me about it, but most corporations follow this model and our arguing isn't going to change the way they buy systems.
