I have never shorted as the risk scares me. One of these days I will have to try it but at this time I am just a long player.

Steve, I got burn't with couple of stocks with short position during the bull run. Trying to play it safe. I am looking at 1 or 2 potential shorts for a day trade.

Looks like you are doing good with your picks, keep it up.

Hi Steve,

I'm glad to see your making some $$$. Once in a while, I'll play the dark side, but I haven't had much time to play with the market recently(a few hrs here or there...but lab has been drawing my energy, & I haven't had much time to do my homework), except to leave my positions unattended (which is expensive $: ). I tried some RMBS puts the other day, but got whipsawed. I think that if you're going to play the darkside, homework is more important as things move faster, & @ times I'm a little sloooooow or just thick headed to realize that is what I should be doing : ). I prefer puts as opposed to going short, as the risk is defined. FWIW...I've been trying to look for points to go long as I have some cash I want to invest. I'm still hoping my good til canceled buy order for RMBS will get filled...as I'm really fishing : ) If the market trends down hard again, & I have time to watch, then I'll play.

The next time you think the market craves the darkside, just let me know ; )

Best of Luck,

Where'd He Go?

Hey Steve O! I did short TERN remember? Didn't hang on as long as I should have, but made money. Shorted CMRC also, once again not nearly making what I should have. You are right, for any trader to become really legendary, they must learn to trade in the direction of the market ALWAYS, if there is a direction, and that means shorting. I nearly wept looking at the daily over 10pt drops in stocks... finally pushed me to the 2 shorts I did. It is nearly routine for markets to fall March/April.. should spend February changing hats as it takes me so long to reverse my thinking.

One thing to remember is some view shorting as not quite right as you are creating phantom supply. But some stocks deserve such treatment. And Finally, the next best thing to not shorting a bear market is to do nothing.. still not a bad plan if one doesn't like shorting. Worst of all is staying long.. especially in the sector responsible for the mess.

Very good trading Steve. Proud of You.

Icidentally most are expecting NASDAQ to head down again. B2B's have been weakest so I may do some dark trades there.

Rashid

steve, in a bear market, there are two ways to play it..
Either play the bounces on the long side, or go short...
Since I feel more comfortable playing the bounces on the long side, that is what I have been doing...

Secondly, my work commitments outside of the market are such that I don't have the scanning and study time I would like to play the dark side...
However, if someone listed some overinflated, stocks, I would be happy to TA them, and recommend which ones would make good shorts...But keep it to 5 or less stocks...Regards, Mark
