I did a bunch of searching at google about the ebay situation and if I have a misconception then there are others who share the same one.<g> Suffice it to say they didn't have a redundant architecture in at least some parts of their infrastructure. When they had the major problems with "Solaris Software" last spring they were awaiting shipment of two more UE10000's. If you want links I got them.

This is a hilarious link about how a housewife in Indiana crashed the entire eBay operation by forgetting to close her connection to ebay before dialing a telephone number.
