You might want to look at Tom's own article comparing 820/RDRAM to Via/PC133:

Via's PC133 chipset could not beat the 820 in any benchmark, although in a lot of benchmarks, Via came very close. In workstation apps, however, 820/RDRAM pulled further ahead, even showing a 14% advantage over PC133 at one point. (No, I'm not including the results of Tom's overclocked 440BX system, since it's not valid as a production system.)

I agree with Dave, the price of RDRAM must come down. There's no argument there. But RDRAM does indeed provide a performance benefit over PC133, contrary to what you just said in your post.
