Thanks, John ... yes, i'm keeping up on xcl ... a little promotion wouldn't hurt here ... it must be disappointing to management to see all their very successful work go so unrewarded by the market.

It's so across the board in the sector, though ... very few exceptions ... i just bailed on fn again for the umpteenth time, and was lucky to break even on k a few weeks ago ... it is completely absurd that Kinross should trade below two loonies, and yet i'm in no hurry to line up to buy it either.

Breakwater does look good ... trading healthy today and coming out of multiple bottoms ... i have it on my stockwatch metals portfolio, it's an old fave .... ever look at aur? ... i've traded it a lot, though not recently .. always made money ... i think it was dumb to go for cbj, though.

I have traded a fair bit of xcl to reduce the acb, and sort of half-ways anticipate upcoming weakness and an opportunity to add cheap paper ... but it wouldn't hurt my feelings none to see it take off north on me, it's a good outfit with a solid and building deposit and deserves more recognition from investors than it has been getting ... my next xcl trade will be a buy, for sure.

X-Cal and Kinross sign Sleeper gold project agreement

X-Cal Resources Ltd XCL
Shares issued 36,392,920
2000-05-01close $0.325
Tuesday May 2 2000
Mr. Shawn Kennedy of X-Cal Resources reports
An agreement that will allow X-Cal Resources to record 100 per cent title to the
Sleeper gold project, located in Humboldt County, NV, has been signed by both
X-Cal and Kinross Gold Corporation, and 5.4 million shares of X-Cal have been
delivered to Kinross. In addition, X-Cal must also deliver $2-million of
reclamation money for the mine site area by Sept. 30, 2000, before recording title
to the project. Kinross Gold Corporation will also record a security interest
against 50 per cent of the claims until they have been released as bond backer for
the mine site area. The total reclamation requirement for the site is estimated at
5.6-million dollars over the next 5 years.
The agreement is an important step forward for the Sleeper gold project as it will
allow X-Cal to record 100 per cent title to the 20,000 acre property prior to the
next drilling program and Kinross Gold Corporation to participate in the upside of
the district through an equity position. The total Kinross shareholding in X-Cal is
now 8 million common shares out of total of 44,399,585 shares in issue and
50,790,726 shares fully diluted. The new ownership structure will give X-Cal the
latitude necessary for continued development of the Sleeper gold district.
The expenditure of more than $12-million (U.S.) by X-Cal since 1993 on a
combination of land acquisition and exploration, including all of the standard
techniques such as; geophysics, soil and rock geochemistry, satellite imagery,
engineering and drilling has outlined a gold system with one of the highest grade
histories in the state of Nevada. Gold systems located on the Carlin and Battle
Mountain and Getchell trends have continued to demonstrate that deposits occur
in clusters and that reserve replacement can be achieved by exploration for new
deposits in proximity to the original discoveries. A current example is Placer
Dome's Getchell property also located in Humboldt County, where Placer paid
1-billion (U.S.), to acquire Getchell and have predicted that they will add 20
million ounces of reserves to their balance sheet by drilling.
Various resource figures for the Sleeper mine site area resource have been
provided to X-Cal from firms such as MRDI, Sierra Mining & Engineering,
Kappes, Cassiday & Associates, as well as from in house calculations by a major
mining company. The various figures for the property have been published by
X-Cal. The most recent report from Kappes, Cassiday & Associates expresses
the opinion that resources exist at the project that have potential for economic
development at this time, using the existing infrastructure at the property. (A 2,500
ton per-day mill is located on the property as well as other infrastructure.)
The management of X-Cal believes that the larger potential of the Sleeper gold
project will be proven by additions to the mine site area resource base and
discovery of new ore bodies within the district scale property. Drilling for the mine
site area has been planned using detailed structural analysis from an extensive
database. The targets for new deposits have signatures similar to Sleeper or other
Nevada gold deposits.
X-Cal has developed relationships with contractors who have technical capacity
to place the property into production as well as with some major companies under
confidentiality agreements that also have the capacity to contribute to the project.
X-Cal intends to carry out a financing for drilling and reclamation at an
appropriate time.

That'll be our next major release i guess, the financing ... the higher the share price for that issue, the less dilution ... time for a little promotion eh ... do you think they still have strong friendly backers?

I haven't added shares yet, i'm sort of expecting one of those little downspikes in the golds just before the next rally ... this thing is going cheap but that's nothing new ... sad ... oh well, that gives time to stick a few more in the rrsp .... cheers

OTTAWA (CP) - Prime Minister Jean Chretien continued his revolving-door Senate appointments Tuesday, naming veteran broadcaster Betty Kennedy and Quebec businessman Raymond Setlakwe to the upper house.

Neither will spend much time in the red chamber. Kennedy has less than a year before reaching the mandatory Senate retirement age of 75 while Setlakwe has four years.

Chretien defended his preference for appointing older senators.

"These are people with a great deal of experience and as they're not going to be there for long, they're taking it very, very seriously," he said.

"They're not coming to the Senate to build a whole career."

Kennedy was a panelist on CBC's Front Page Challenge - the longest running public and current affairs program in Canadian history - from 1962 to 1995.

She also wrote two books: Gerhard and Hurricane Hazel.
