LGIC opens first CDMA system in Vietnam
The first CDMA (code division multiple access) WLL (wireless local loop) system in Vietnam that deploys a LG Information and Communications' (LGIC) system was officially opened yesterday in Hai Doug, near Hanoi.

The actual service deployment came about two years after Vietnam decided to adopt the CDMA technology at the end of 1997.

LGIC supplied the CDMA WLL (wireless local loop) system and electronic switcher STREX-VK that provide 120,000 lines and a fiber-optic loop carrier STARDLC-750.

The telecom system and equipment manufacturer is actively engaged in the Vietnamese CDMA market, having recently concluded a deal to jointly develop the CDMA system and FLC with the Center for Development of Information and Technology (CDIT) affiliated with Vietnam Post & Telecommunications Corp.

The company is also in talks to set up a joint venture mobile phone company deploying CDMA technology in Vietnam in partnership with SK Telecom and Saigon Postel, a government-owned telecom company based in Ho Chi Minh City, this year. According to an LGIC official, the company aims to launch commercial services as early as next year.
