Gary,

Hi-Tech investing in general is gambling.

There are very few SURE things in hi-tech biz.

Thats why rewards and risks are very high.

AMD did a lot of things right - thats a fact.

Intel executed flawlessly in early 90's until around 96.

They continued to excel in mfg and marketing until mid 99.

Their performance lately has been poor.

One can read it as simply bad luck and some missteps and the upswing is around the corner.

Or it is a sign of systemic mismanagement and miscalculation.

And the stock price is a lagging indicator IMHO.

AMD was doing a lot right and yet its stock sunk into mid teens.

Intel was screwing up left and right and stock went ballistic to $140+.

Just imagine what problems Intel is gonna have when AMD is shipping 0.13 micron ands CU out of Dresden in HIGH volumes by Q1 2001.

They will have just brought 8 fabs up to 0.18 micron. And suddenly they have to bring up cu. Now most folks figure a dedicated Cu fab is best.

What is gonna happen when they start putting cu into their out of date Al fabs.

I am sure they will succeed but it is likely to be a major fiasco as they will be playing catch up and have to cut corners.

regards,

Kash
