RE: "As for holding through earnings today note INTC & IBM beat earnings & both are down about 10 points. hmmmmm - JH"

JH, you do have a point. If Microsoft is 50/50 on going up in good earnings, it will probably go down. Investors in Microsoft want, expect, and are used to a "Shure Thing."

This is something that Microsoft can no longer deliver on. Look at all their un-invested cash. This is a public admission that there is just no where to put it to work to match the OS monopoly. With the restraint on future monopolies derived from the OS monopoly, prospects are just ordinary.

Here's the deal: If Microsoft posts great earnings that hold up to the best accounting practices (and there will be a long weekend to investigate & comment)the shares will open strong, offering yet another convenient opportunity to unload shares on to the market.

The basic problem remains, after all is said and done, the PE on this puppy is on the decline. Microsoft is on it's way to becoming a competitive business firm.

This is just part of the new reality. It does not mean you can't make money on MSFT. It just means that the rules have changed.
