This item is interesting in two ways from my point of view. 1) The switch appears to be using AWRE tech and works with the Cisco 6100 & 6200 DSLAMs which use AWRE tech and the Cisco CPE modem. 2) Could Seagull Semiconductor be a new customer of Aware's now that Cisco has acquired it?

Cisco Introduces New Switch

Senior Analyst: Luciano Siracusano (4/20/00)

Cisco Systems (NASDAQ:CSCO - news) introduced a new switch this week, the 6015 IP DSL, which enables service providers to extend DSL (digital subscriber line) reach beyond the central office to multi-tenants and remote terminals. Switches are devices that establish the paths through which information is moved between two or more users in a network. The addition to the existing 6000 series will allow Cisco to help providers make possible more data, voice and video services for commercial and residential customers.

Cisco, which combines routers with switches to direct Internet traffic, has become the worldwide leader in networking by designing high performance solutions that support multiple protocols. An important aspect of Cisco's 6000 IP DSL switching platforms are features that allow service providers to scale to Internet Protocol (IP) packet processing, a key function that will help to diffuse bottlenecks in highly trafficked networks.

Cisco's GlobalDSL Strategy positions the company to capitalize on the spread of DSL technology to businesses and consumers who choose traditional phone lines as their on-ramp to the broadband world.

Tuesday's news comes after a series of new acquisitions announced over the past few weeks. On April12, Cisco acquired a subsidiary of privately held Seagull Semiconductor Ltd. for $19 million. The purchase of Seagull's core development team of 17 engineers will help Cisco accelerate the development of terabit performance routers. The deal comes the heels of an earlier announcement to buy Israel-based Pentacom for $118 million and the company's definitive agreement to acquire SightPath, Inc. for $800 million announced in March.
