If it drops back to single digits, Mr. Market will have taught me a lasting lesson.

But isn't the idea behind 3G worldwide standardization?

Whose idea? Why are there multiple standards for 3G then? This is about money. DDI isn't going to sit on their butts waiting for DS-CDMA. They are going to be kicking butt with 1x. You can set up all of the dominos you want. The one that gets knocked over first gets all of the attention.

Clearly 1x is that domino.

Greg Re Scale

Good point, but the 3G market is not quite so black and white. There are many iterations of 3G W-CDMA and proposed steps to get there that there will be many different "islands" based on individual business plans and feature roll outs. IMO, the real economies of scale won't come into play for approx 7 more years -way past the time when these operators must show ROI and in time to evaluate 4G tech.

Rox

"all true. But isn't the idea behind 3G worldwide standardization? If W-CDMA is going to be the standard, then
why be an island, when scale will make W-CDMA cheaper down the road. You can't just think about today and
say yes it would be cheaper now to stay with the migration path that we have, but if everyone else is going
W-CDMA then we should too... You could talk about all we want but if they go W-CDMA then, like dominos, all
others could fall into place... "
