The US unfortunately does get a good share of the blame for the problems in Indonesia and Russia.

Suhurto came to power in a CIA backed coup in 1965 and promptly proceeded to slaughter as many as a million "communists" again with full US support. His crimes make those of Saddam Hussein seem like small potatoes. But the US only turned against him when he had outlived his usefulness.

BTW this kind of thing gives the lie to the US claim to be the great defender of human rights in the world.

Ditto for Russia. The super corrupt Boris Yeltsin had full US support until his last day and probably never would have come to power without such support.

This is not to say that we are responsible for all the world's problems. But we do carry more than a little blame unfortunately. I see us playing a role similar to the Roman Empire exacting tribute from de facto colonies. For that is what our monstrous trade deficits really are.

lanceinfla, I do not know how to make myself clearer I did not blame the US on the disasters in Indonesia or Russia, but I gave them as an example what financial markets implosion can do to real people.

As in the US many markets were un naturally inflated to keep the people happy Indonesia and Malezia are perfect examples.
