Why should news from The Register be believed (trumpeted) when it is pro-Rambus, but considered trash when it isn't favorable to the Rambus cause?

I have never said this, neither do I agree with it. Since the very beginning that I have been posting here I have always posted articles from the Register. Since I am pro-Rambus I would think that it would only be natural that I would post positive articles, although I have been known to post some that could be construed as being negative. At first it was ibex that spanked me for posting so much from the Register implying that it was the National Inquirer of the internet (not reliable). In the meantime I enjoy reading it and will continue to post those articles that I feel fit the situation... if that's OK with you?

Don,

Why should news from The Register be believed (trumpeted) when it is pro-Rambus, but considered trash when it isn't favorable to the Rambus cause?

Good question -- made me stop and think for a second since I got pretty excited by it. I guess a couple of reasons came to mind:

1) It reads more like a press release than what I normally think of as their RMBS bashing pieces. However, I found it interesting that in the middle of reporting very positive news for Rambus that they pointed out that previous purchasers are in effect getting screwed. I've read thousands of reported press releases of price reductions and not once have they mentioned that anybody who bought the product before the price reduction was getting screwed. So they still got in a dig.

or it could be ...

2) Since The Register has not been Intel/Rambus friendly (I can't imagine anyone would argue that), for them to publish positive news about Rambus indicates that it must be true. <g> In this case, The Register was probably the first to report from a standard press release and I expect we'll see other pubs report the same news (if we don't I'll begin worrying).

Personally I think the bottom line is, as per the discussion we had recently about how valid information probably is when posted by someone who's actually against the position, anytime The Register posts Rambus-friendly news, it's probably true.

For the most part, I still consider it a biased rag <G>.
