Compaq laid off 450 employees as part of an ongoing effort to trim operations, the company confirmed today.

The Houston-based PC maker let go approximately 450 employees yesterday, most of whom worked in the commercial PC group,
according to Compaq spokesman Alan Hodel.

The layoffs were part of a restructuring announced last fall, which included plans to eliminate 7,000 positions by the end of the second
half, Hodel said.

"We're positioning that part of the company for future growth," he said. Compaq cut management, engineering and marketing staff.

Captain Jack;

Hey, what's groovin' brotha' - Play that funky music. It seems everyone has their own tale to spin. One minute pc sales are in the doldrums, the next minute pc sales are boomin'. Then msft, says sales are slow. What a bunch of crap. what happens happens. End of story. Everyone wants to come up with whatever excuse they can come up with to hide their own incompetence. Case in point. Ibm cries the blues about y2k dragging into 2000. What a bunch of b.s. ibm is a loser entity that wants to blame their ineptitude on an old story. MC will likely do the same.
